Let Your Car Park Itself | Lamarque Ford | Kenner, Metairie, New Orleans

April 27, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

It’s 7:45 p.m. and you’re running late for your movie date. You arrive at the movie theatre only to find the parking lot as crowded as ever and there’s only a few tiny, cramped spaces left. What do you do? If you try and fit the car in a tight spot you will either park smoothly on one try or fail miserably and scratch the hell out of your vehicle. What would your date make of it? Wouldn’t it be nice to step of out, click a button and let your car do the rest? Soon, that will be possible.

Fully Assisted Parking Aid

Ford researchers have been hard at work testing the limits of innovation and ease of use. This new concept known as Fully Assisted Parking Aid, is being pioneered by Ford Europe and will soon make it to Fords everywhere. The system relies on ultrasonic sensors to “feel” obstacles around the car, and it also overtakes the braking, gas and transmission systems for a smoother parking. According to Ford Research, the only required input from the driver is to keep a button pressed during the parking process. As a safety measure, the process will stop anytime the button is released.

As we’ve mentioned before, autonomous driving is just around the corner, and these small steps in the right direction will only get us there faster. Remember the best part about this new parking system is that the car can park in a spot so small you wouldn’t be able to open the door if you were inside. That’s when the remote parking system comes in handy, as you can also retrieve the car from the spot with the same button.

Ford already uses a similar system called Active Park Assist, which only works for parallel parking and the driver controls most of the car’s breaking and acceleration. Unlike the new system, Active Park Assist also requires the driver to be inside the car while operating. Don’t forget to stop by Lamarque Ford and see our current selection of vehicles with Active Park Assist, it will blow you away.

True Fuel Economy | Lamarque Ford | Metairie, Kenner, New Orleans

April 22, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Most of today’s fuel cars are in a never-ending race to mpg goodness, due in part to an increase in fuel prices and environmentally conscious consumers. Nearly all car manufacturers offer an economy model, priced at around $15,000, that achieves decent gas mileage (±30 mpg). However,  if you want serious fuel efficiency (+60 mpg) you’ll have to spend way more money. Let’s look at the current alternatives from the top car manufacturers around the globe.

Test drive the new Ford Fiesta at Lamarque Ford in Kenner

Volkswagen’s base model, the Jetta S, is priced at $16,895 and offers 23/24 mpg. The Jetta, classified as a compact car, has a history of reliability and it’s backed from one of the most prestigious brands in the market, not to mention its appealing European looks. However, 24 mpg is not a substantial figure in today’s market, and it will cost you an extra $4,000 to get to a decent 30/42 mpg. That’s right, Volkswagen’s green offering is a powerful clean diesel TDi, and it will set you back $21,295.

Toyota goes a step further and offers the Yaris, a subcompact vehicle that achieves higher fuel efficiency in 30/37 mpg. Unlike the spacious Jetta, the Yaris comes in a hatchback only version and it’s significantly smaller. However, Toyota offers a wide range of hybrid and electric vehicles, including SUVs. Starting at $19,080, the Prius gives you an astonishing fuel efficiency of 53 mpg and a roomier interior. Toyota also offers an all electric SUV, the RAV4, with an impressive 76 mpg equivalent.

Ford also offers a subcompact capable of a modest 27/38 mpg. The Ford Fiesta has proven to be a popular choice as it’s priced at an attractive $14,100. Ford’s other green offerings include hybrid versions of C-Max and Fusion, along with an all electric Ford Focus, which is rated at 99 mpg equivalent.

Other car manufacturers in the U.S. offer similar options with comparable fuel economy. However, Elio Motors, an upcoming brand, has promised to produce a vehicle capable of 84 mpg at only $6,800. Stay tuned to see how this new car does and don’t forget to stop by your local Ford dealership to see their current hybrid and green models.

Small Car, Big Success | Lamarque Ford | New Orleans, Kenner, Metairie

April 11, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Many of us in the U.S. are not familiar with sub-compact cars, mainly because for years, car manufacturers sold these vehicles strictly outside of the country. Today, almost every brand offers a sub-compact in their lineup and they seem to be gaining traction again. Sub-compacts have evolved from underpowered, cramped and unsafe vehicles to real and viable options for everyday car drivers. Technology today has made it possible to use smaller engines without sacrificing power or efficiency, while better safety devices have become standard in all cars.

Lamarque Ford in Kenner offers the Ford Fiesta STFollowing the 1973 oil crisis, U.S. car manufacturers increased their small car/small engine production and in 1976, The Ford Motor Company introduced the Ford Fiesta, a 3 door hatchback equipped with a 4 cylinder engine. The Fiesta has sold over 16 million units worldwide since its inception, most of them outside the U.S. The Ford Fiesta was absent from the American market for 30 years after being discontinued in 1980. However, 2010 saw a renewed interest in small cars and the Fiesta came back home. For 2014, Ford took the world by surprise and the new Fiesta ST is raking up awards all over the place.

So what makes the 2014 Fiesta ST such a winner? For starters, is one of the only cars in this segment to sport a turbo-charged engine, which makes it extremely fun to drive. In the past, automakers have taken a local or regional approach when developing cars, effectively tailoring cars to specific markets. This time, however, Ford has taken a global approach in the design and marketing of the Fiesta ST and the efforts have paid off. In addition to its powerful engine, the ST offers racing inspired seats and interior, only available in pricier vehicles.

New to this generation’s Fiesta is Ford’s new design language, which is present in other models such as the Taurus, Focus, Fusion and C-Max. The new design is “meaner” looking, with dropped down headlamps and lowered hood for better air intake, along with a redesign grille that adds a sporty look across the brand. The best part about the Fiesta ST is the price, as it is still considered an economy car.

Don’t forget to stop by Lamarque Ford in Kenner to look at Ford’s new design across all models, including the 2014 Fiesta ST.

Tips On Buying Your First Car | Lamarque Ford | New Orleans, Kenner, Metairie

April 9, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Buying your first car shouldn’t be a time consuming and frustrating experience. Given all the resources and comparison tools available today, the process should be exciting and rewarding. However, more often than not, first time car buyers find themselves lost and without guidance. Lamarque Ford has put together a short list of tips to point you in the right direction.

Lamarque Ford offers used and new cars. Enjoy your first car buy

Budget
Budget will dictate the basics of your car purchase. At this point, you should be looking at your overall cost of living including housing, bills, groceries, health insurance, savings, etc. Always remember to include an estimate for car insurance and emergency money to the long term cost of a car. Once you’ve set your budget, it will be easier to decide whether to get a new or used car. Whichever route you choose, you’ll also have the option to pay cash or to finance your investment.

Needs
Now that you have a price range in mind, you’ll need to asses your needs. Be sure to take  your lifestyle and daily habits into account, as this will give you a better idea of what kind of car you need. The best way to do it is to ask yourself a few basic questions:

  • How would you be driving your car?

  • Will you commute long distances to work?

  • Will you be driving in the city?

  • How many people do you usually take with you?

  • Is fuel efficiency a priority?

Do The Research
At this point it should be really clear the type of vehicle you can afford based on your needs. Start looking online at different brands and contact the sellers directly to inquire about offers. Most car dealerships offer incentives for new car buyers, recent grads and military, so make sure this is part of your decision process. Keep in mind that there is more than one car dealership for each brand, so never settle for the first option.

Get The Feel Of The Wheel
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. All the grunt work and countless hours of research are about to pay off. Start visiting dealerships to see the cars for yourself and talk to the salespeople personally. Once you’re ready to test drive a car, take into account the following:

  • Is there enough space to sit comfortably? Is it too cramped?

  • Are the seats and head rests comfortable?

  • Are the controls and switches easily accessible?

  • How is the visibility?

  • Is the engine loud or quiet?

  • Does the car accelerate smoothly?

  • Are the breaks too sensitive?

Although this is just a short list of questions to keep in mind, you should look at as many details as possible. Also remember that during the test drive the salesperson might try to single out other features that you’re not interested in, so stay focused.

In the end, your decision might come down to one thing: gut feeling. That’s right, that visceral emotion driving you crazy every time you see a red Mustang might kick in at the wrong time, so keep things in perspective. Remember to stay rational and never take on a loan that exceeds your original budget. Your intuition might determine the trim or color of your car, but it should never precede your research.

New York International Auto Show | Lamarque Ford | New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner

April 7, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

The 2014 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) opens its doors on April 18, and is going to be one of the biggest ever. Although the show has been running since 1900 (also the first car show in America), this year’s line-up and international attention seem to be off the charts. Virtually every brand selling cars in the U.S. will be part of the show, with manufacturers like Alfa Romeo, Mercedes Benz and Audi  introducing new concept or production models. American automakers will be making some big splashes too, as Chevy is introducing a new Corvette and Ford is showing off the 2015 F-150. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most important announcements.

Alfa Romeo 4C

Lamarque Ford | Metairie, New Orleans, Kenner

Alfa Romeo is returning to the U.S. in 2015 with the 4C, a two seater sport coupe. The Italian automaker is known for its refined and sporty sedans but this time will be competing against Porsches and Audis. Behind the two bucket seats hides a turbo-charged 1.7 four cylinder beast, producing up to 237 horsepower. When coupled with the 4C’s light carbon fiber frame, this Italian vehicle can go from 0–60 in just under 4.5 seconds. American publications are already praising the car’s performance and looks, though some are skeptical of its success because of the speculated price tag: $70,000.

Chevrolet Corvette Z06

The Z06 Corvette will be displayed at the New York International Auto Shows

Also known as the top of the line Corvette, Chevy is already calling the 2015 Z06 a super car, and rightly so. The new Corvette makes more than 600 horsepower thanks to its 6.2-liter V-8 supercharged engine. It is also the fastest Corvette ever. The Z06 also features oversized ceramic brakes, 625 lb. of torque and an optional all-new automatic transmission that promises fast shifts on par with Porsche’s Doppelkupplung gear box. Chevy is headed in the right direction with the 2015 Corvette Z06, as it becomes once again relevant in the performance sports cars arena.

Ford F-150

Ford F-150. Lamarque Ford

Ford has proven time after time (30 times, actually) that the F-150 is a winner. Ford’s four wheel workhorse has been the best selling vehicle in the U.S. for 30 years, and things keep getting better. For model year 2015 the American automaker is bringing a lightweight aluminum chassis, more improvements to its powerful yet efficient V6 and improved headlight technology. F-150 sales have skyrocketed in recent years and the V6 engine is now the most popular.

BMW i8

BMW will show a production car sample for the i8

The BMW i8 is a rare beast that combines the best of a plug-in hybrid and a sports car. BMW is betting the future of the company with their “i” series, as they’re introducing a new platform, technology and design languages that will trickle down to the rest of the lineup in coming years. The BMW i8 can achieve compact car fuel efficiency without compromising performance or looks, and it’s geared to the high-end  eco-friendly consumer.

Remember to stay on top of the new car announcements as the New York International Auto Show runs from April 18th through the 27th.

Rear View Cameras Required In New Cars By 2018 | Lamarque Ford | New Orleans, LA

April 3, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

On Monday March 31st, The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a final rule that requires new visibility technology in new cars by May 2018. The technology refers to rear-view cameras, and gives drivers a wider viewing angle when backing up. The NHTSA says it implemented this new rule because of the injuries and fatalities associated with backing-up incidents.  U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said children under five and adults over seventy years old account for 57% of back-over deaths.

Lamarque Ford Kenner - Back up camera as a safety feature

The rule will apply to all new vehicles over 10,000 pounds including vans and pick up trucks, so manufacturers will need to expand this technology across their lineups by 2018. The good news is many of today’s new cars are already using this new visibility enhancement. According to Edmunds.com, almost half of all new cars in 2012 were equipped with this technology and consumer demand seems to be on the rise. Ford already offers rear-view cameras in most of its models and so do other manufacturers.

Although the new requirement is aimed at protecting children and the elderly, some people are concerned this is yet another government intrusion. However, the Federal Government already regulates the automotive industry to make sure manufacturers adhere to high quality, safety and efficiency standards. Other government mandated safety features include seat belts, airbags and tire pressure monitors; all aimed at protecting consumers.

A quick visit to your local car dealership will give you a better idea of the latest safety features, like cross-traffic alerts, forward collision warning, lane-keeping system, and many more.

2015 Ford Mustang Aerodynamics | Lamarque Ford | Kenner, Metairie, New Orleans

March 28, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

When buying a new car, most of us don’t think about aerodynamics. In fact, most of us don’t know what aerodynamics really are, and why should we? After all, we just want a smooth ride, great performance and outstanding gas mileage. However, aerodynamics play an important role in almost everything your car does, from better handling to a more comfortable ride.

New aerodynamic technology allows the Ford Mustang to cut through the air easily

Aerodynamics are nothing but the way airflows interact with your car, or according to NASA, “the way air moves around objects.” In other words, as your car accelerates, it displaces the air around it creating forces that work for or against it, depending on the design. Ideally, a vehicle with  good aerodynamics uses air in its favor for several things including cooling the engine and breaks, ‘planting’ the car to the ground, and improving maneuverability at high speeds. Car manufacturers use drag coefficient to measure how aerodynamic a car is based on it’s shape.

For 2015, Ford engineers  have completely redesigned the Mustang, allowing them to put a great emphasis on aerodynamics. With a more muscular look, Ford designers were able to bring the hood lower to the ground, which improves the air flow and puts less wind resistance. The Ford team went as far as redesigning the Mustang’s underbody to keep it closer to the ground. The all-new design also uses door-mounted mirrors to reduce wind noise when driving at highway speeds.

Although aerodynamics play an important role in  a vehicle’s efficiency, the 2015 Ford Mustang keeps a balance between design and performance. We understand it’s not  easy to have both good looks and aerodynamics, as some of the cars with the best drag coefficients turned out to be really hard on the eyes. Regardless, Ford design and engineering teams worked closely together to ensure the legendary Mustang was as attractive as ever.

Also, remember there’s nothing like test driving a new car to really understand what’s been put into it. Get in touch with us to get a feel for the 2014 Mustang, as you’ll have to wait until fall for the 2015 model. Stay tuned!

Ford C-MAX Solar Energi Tech Redefines Electric Car | Lamarque Ford | New Orleans

March 25, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

It’s been over a hundred years since the introduction of the automobile, and although our cars are smarter than ever, they still share a lot of technologies with their predecessors. Most cars today, as they did in the early 1900’s, rely on fossil fuels to operate gas engines and diesel engines, and the ones that don’t, still require some sort of human input to re-charge.

Lamarque Ford Kenner | Solar panels in CMAX eliminate the need to plug in

We’re always hopeful for a leap into the future – things like self-driving or flying cars, teleporting vehicles; figments of someone else’s imagination popularized by science fiction. What if we take fueling, the one trait cars have shared for decades, out of the equation? New innovative car technology is letting us do just that.

The Ford C-MAX Solar Energi Concept is a glimpse of the future. Yes, it does require you to fill-up at the gas station, but unlike plug-in hybrid cars, you’ll never have to plug to an external power source like ordinary electric cars. That’s because the C-MAX’s roof is a giant solar panel, and it constantly recharges the batteries that power the electric car’s engine. This is a big deal when you consider this is free, clean, 100% renewable energy over using fossil fuels for gas and diesel engines.

To make this possible, Ford partnered with Georgia Institute of Technology, home to some of the nation’s highest regarded experts in the solar field. This will allow Ford to thoroughly test the C-MAX and get the feedback they need when this solar powered, electric hybrid car goes into production. Ford also partnered with SunPower, which provides the top of the line solar panels used in the C-MAX Solar.

We’re hoping to see this new generation of self-sustainable at Ford dealerships in the near future, when fueling becomes a thing of the past. In the meantime, we can watch this technology grow and expect to see more competition in the solar field.

F-150 Brings LED Tech to Trucks| Lamarque Ford | New Orleans, Kenner

March 21, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Headlights were first introduced in vehicles in the late 1880’s. The first generation of headlamps were acetylene or oil based, and they came as a response to the high number of accidents that occurred at night. In 1898, the first wave of electric lamps debuted, but proved to be a failure due to the short life of the filaments and lack of power to keep them on. However, in 1912, Cadillac introduced the first good enough electric lighting system, which served as the cornerstone of modern day headlights.

2015 Ford F-150 Healights

Today, all vehicles that operate in public roads are required to have headlights. Modern lamps generate light from different sources like tungsten, tungsten-halogen, HID (high intensity discharge) and LED (light emitting diode). Although LED technology has been around for some time (christmas lights, anyone?), it wasn’t until 2007 that their performance was on par with other technologies. The first production vehicle with factory installed LED headlamps was the 2007 Lexus LS 600h, one of Lexus flagship cars.

Seven years later, however, LED technology is still not widely adopted in the automotive industry. LED lights have proven to be brighter and more energy efficient than other lamps, but they are still cost prohibitive for non-luxury cars. That’s why in 2015, Ford is taking a leap forward and bringing that very technology to their 6,000 lb workhorse, the new 2015 Ford F-150. Let’s take a look at the reasons behind this decision.

While redesigning the F-150, Ford engineers realized traditional headlights have to be replaced very often, so it was a natural choice to go with the long lasting LED option. LED lights also offer superior light quality and range, which translates into better visibility. Ford is the first manufacturer to bring LED lights to a truck, leaving competitors (and halogen lamps) in the dust.

Remember that along with airbags and seat belts, headlights play an important role in your vehicle’s safety. Statistically, most auto accidents happen at night, and better headlamps can significantly improve your chances of avoiding one. Stop by your local dealership so you can see the difference for yourself, as other high end vehicles are already using LED technology.

Upcoming Movies for Ford Car Fans | New Orleans

February 28, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

With the Golden Globes behind us and the Oscars coming up in March, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of new and upcoming movie releases. While many of the year’s best films covered topics as varied as space travel, artificial intelligence, and practically anything and everything in between, there is more than enough in the world of cinema for driving fans to enjoy.

Ford Car Films Lamarque Ford

Need For Speed

There’s plenty to get excited about with Need For Speed, the upcoming film adaptation of the iconic video game franchise. Set to be released on March 14 of this year, the film stars Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul as a blue collar worker who sets out in a high speed chase across the country in the wake of being framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Equally as exciting, though, is the film’s inclusion of the new 2015 Ford Mustang. While Paul’s character will be featured primarily driving a heavily modified 2014 Ford Mustang, the 2015 version of the car will make an appearance as well. The car, which recently made its car show debut in Detroit back in January, features Ford’s Ecoboost technology and preliminary specs of up to 420hp.

Go Like Hell

Another adaptation, Go Like Hell is based on the AJ Baime book about the 1960s showdown between Ford and Ferrari at Le Mans. The rivalry reached its climax in 1966 while the two car makers battled it out at the 24 hour endurance race at Le Mans with Ford striving to be the first American car maker to win the race. Tom Cruise is set to play American car designer Carroll Shelby with Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski at the helm. Brad Pitt’s name has also reportedly been attached to the project as well, although it is not yet known which role he will play. While it is also yet unknown which Ford cars will be featured in the film, we can be sure that they will star in many high speed racing sequences.

Fast & Furious 7

The latest installment in a series that needs no introduction for racing fans, Fast and Furious 7 was thrust into the spotlight most recently in the wake of Paul Walker’s tragic driving accident. A direct sequel to Fast & Furious 6, Fast & Furious 7 features a host of big name Hollywood stars such as Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell, and Michelle Rodriguez. While the list of cars to be featured in the movie is not yet known, FF6 showed high performance vehicles such as the BMW M5, Dodge Charger, and even a 1970s Ford Escort- so there’s no doubt that the latest installment will not disappoint in its car offerings.

Rush

While Rush has come and gone from theaters, it has recently been released on home media so anybody who missed Ron Howard’s driving spectacle can still enjoy it, albeit on a smaller screen. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Rush focuses primarily on the intense rivalry between two Formula One drivers. While you may not see any familiar cars by well-known makers such as Ford or Lincoln, be prepared to be blown away by authentic high performance machines made by the likes of Ferrari and McLaren. Released to critical acclaim, Rush is a relatively low-profile film that is not to be missed.
