June 23, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Ford is bringing big upgrades to the 2015 Ford Explorer, as the manufacturer readies new changes across its whole line-up. From the all-new redesigned 2015 Mustang, to the powerful 2015 F-150, Ford is getting serious about staying atop of the competition. Consumers looking for a roomy third-row seater should keep the 2015 Ford Explorer in mind, as it offers excellent comfort and fuel efficiency. Let’s look at what the new Explorer has to offer.

2015 Ford Explorer XLT

Engine Specs

The new Ford Explorer offers three engine options, all of which deliver outstanding fuel economy and power. The base model is a 3.5 liter V6 with 290 horsepower, giving drivers enough muscle for a fun ride, smooth acceleration and quick lane changes. Next is the 2.0 liter Ecoboost, a surprisingly powerful four-cylinder engine that delivers 240 horsepower. Thanks to its direct injection and turbo-charger, the 2.0 Ecoboost has claimed the best-in-class fuel economy with 23 combined mpg. The 2015 Ford Explorer is also available in the top of the line 3.5 liter Ecoboost: a six-cylinder beast with 365 horsepower, standard Intelligent 4WD and a twin turbo-charger.

2015 Explorer Trims

For the new 2015 Ford Explorer the manufacturer is introducing the Sport edition, a new trim level that  redefines the term “fully loaded”. For starters, the Sport trim is the only way to get V6 Ecoboost goodness and standard Intelligent 4WD, which constantly monitors several driving factors to give you the best torque on each wheel. Aside from the leather trimmed seating surfaces, rear-view camera and reverse sensing system, the Explorer Sport boasts a sport-tuned suspension and PowerFold third row seat. The last option allows consumers to fold down the last row of seats with the push of a button. An additional equipment package upgrades your 2015 Explorer Sport to inflatable rear seat belts, voice-activated navigation system, heated/cooled driver and passenger seats and a power lift gate.

Redesigned 2015 Body

With the introduction of the Sport trim, the 2015 Explorer refresh focuses on a more youthful and sportier look. As part of the new package, the new Explorer gains 20-in machined aluminum wheels, a black-body side cladding, roof rack rails and an Explorer hood badge. The interior also gets a revamp with new leather trimmed seats with Miko suede inserts, two LCD screens, two USB ports and a card reader.

Here’s the wrap-up of the new features the 2015 Ford Explorer has to offer:

  • New appearance package for Explorer XLT which includes:
    • Grille and mirror caps painted Magnetic Metallic
    • New Explorer hood badge
    • Roof rack rails

Engine Fuel Economy Improvements | Lamarque Ford | New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner

May 5, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Ten years ago, the top selling trucks in the U.S. had an average combined EPA fuel economy of only 14 mpg. Today, that number is closer to 20. What has happened? Have we sacrificed performance for fuel efficiency? Not at all. Although car manufacturers have shrunk the engines significantly, new technologies allow for better performance AND better gas mileage. Let’s take a look at some of the improvements in truck engines.

2015 Ecoboost engine

Fuel efficiency depends on factors other than the engine, like aerodynamics, weight and rolling resistance. However, it is increasingly harder for pick-up trucks to improve in other aspects of fuel efficiency while at the same time adding new technological improvements. Remember, the job a truck is hired to do is not to consume as little fuel as possible, but to tow, carry and drag.

Turbochargers
This technology has been around for a while and has been used in high performance cars for decades. Manufacturers started implementing turbochargers in trucks as it allows for a smaller engine without losing torque. Ford’s Ecoboost engines are use turbocharging to compensate for their small size (3.5 V6 to power a 6000 lb vehicle).

Variable Displacement
Variable displacement is also known as cylinder deactivation. The system works by allowing some of the cylinders to stop moving while the throttle is closed or running at steady speeds, like highway speeds, without affecting its power. Before its modern implementation, variable displacement technology failed to reach mass market because of unsolved engineering challenges dating back to the early 80s. Today, this technology is widely used by Honda, GM and Mercedes-Benz.

Direct Fuel Injection
Direct Fuel injection allows for a better control of the amount of fuel that goes into the cylinders as it is delivered directly, thus reducing waste. Ecoboost engines by Ford rely heavily on this technology coupled with turbocharging.

Lighter Materials
New manufacturing techniques have made materials such as aluminum a viable option for many parts of a vehicle, engines included. This reduces the weight of engines by about half, compared to iron block engines. However, there were some problems with early aluminum engines as they couldn’t handle the high temperatures. That’s all in the past as most of today’s standard small engines are aluminum.

Cop Car Reinvented | Lamarque Ford | Kenner, New Orleans, Metairie

March 26, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

In 1899, when most police fleets consisted of bicycles and horses, the Akron (Ohio) Police Department decided to break out of the ordinary and got the very first motorized police cruiser. Although it was technically an electric buggy equipped with lights and a gong, it paved the road for a new type of vehicles: the police interceptor. Today we’re all familiar with the iconic Ford Crown Victoria of the late 90’s, which was the most popular choice among police departments and cab companies across the U.S. However, after a very successful nine year run, Ford ceased production of the interceptor in 2011. Based on a fuel-hungry V8 engine and a heavy large frame, the Crown Victoria wasn’t exactly the most fuel efficient car out there.

Ford's police interceptor comes with standard all-wheel-drive and EcoBoost engine. Is built for high performance and fuel efficiency.

Ford started offering two new options in 2011: a leaner and meaner interceptor sedan and a high performance SUV, based on the Taurus and Explorer models respectively. After only two years, these new options proved to be a success and Ford’s new police vehicles now account for almost 50% share in this segment.

Ford’s latest models were first met with skepticism, since they were a big departure from the oversized frame of the Crown Victoria. The SUV turned out to be just what police officers were looking for, as it allows them to carry more equipment without sacrificing fuel economy. Both models come with standard all-wheel-drive and EcoBoost engines, improved acceleration and better handling. Thanks to the new improvements, police departments across the U.S. can enjoy improved fuel efficiency and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

As the role of police officers changes, so will the future cop cars. Ford continues to innovate and bring breakthrough products across all segments, including public safety.

2015 Ford Expedition features EcoBoost | Lamarque Ford | New Orleans

March 10, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Last week we introduced the new, redesigned 2015 Ford Focus featuring Ecoboost. Today, we introduce the 2015 Ford Expedition and what it has in store for the Ford Expedition fan base.  The new Expedition will feature twin-turbocharged Ecoboost engine, commonly seen in Ford F-Series, to deliver the most powerful, fuel efficient Expedition yet!

Lamarque Ford 2015 Ford Expedition

The Expedition made its first debut in 1996 as Ford’s largest utility vehicle. Today, the Expedition has come a long way in becoming the leader in interior space, performance, and the only full-size non-luxury independent rear suspension vehicle.

Top features for the 2015 Expedition include the Ford F-Series popular 3.5 liter Ecoboost engine, a new high-trim Platinum series, blind spot information system, and SYNC with MyFord Touch.  Two variations of the 2015 Expedition will be available: the standard 119-inch wheelbase (3 seat rows and 108.3 cu ft. of cargo space) and the 131-inch wheelbase (3 seat rows and 130.8 cu ft. of cargo space).

Don’t think that just because the new Expedition will feature the Ecoboost engine that it has lost any power. Quite the contrary, the new Expedition will have increased torque and horsepower, combined with an advanced suspension making driving more exciting.  The XLT sporty model and the urban Platinum models will each feature unique finishes customized to reflect your lifestyle and desires.  Other featured versions include the Limited and a new King Ranch edition that will further encompass the unique custom designs Ford fans are looking for. Best to stop at your local Ford dealership quickly because with these specs and brunello (red wine) leather, the 2015 Expedition is going to go fast.

Upcoming Movies for Ford Car Fans | New Orleans

February 28, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

With the Golden Globes behind us and the Oscars coming up in March, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of new and upcoming movie releases. While many of the year’s best films covered topics as varied as space travel, artificial intelligence, and practically anything and everything in between, there is more than enough in the world of cinema for driving fans to enjoy.

Ford Car Films Lamarque Ford

Need For Speed

There’s plenty to get excited about with Need For Speed, the upcoming film adaptation of the iconic video game franchise. Set to be released on March 14 of this year, the film stars Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul as a blue collar worker who sets out in a high speed chase across the country in the wake of being framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Equally as exciting, though, is the film’s inclusion of the new 2015 Ford Mustang. While Paul’s character will be featured primarily driving a heavily modified 2014 Ford Mustang, the 2015 version of the car will make an appearance as well. The car, which recently made its car show debut in Detroit back in January, features Ford’s Ecoboost technology and preliminary specs of up to 420hp.

Go Like Hell

Another adaptation, Go Like Hell is based on the AJ Baime book about the 1960s showdown between Ford and Ferrari at Le Mans. The rivalry reached its climax in 1966 while the two car makers battled it out at the 24 hour endurance race at Le Mans with Ford striving to be the first American car maker to win the race. Tom Cruise is set to play American car designer Carroll Shelby with Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski at the helm. Brad Pitt’s name has also reportedly been attached to the project as well, although it is not yet known which role he will play. While it is also yet unknown which Ford cars will be featured in the film, we can be sure that they will star in many high speed racing sequences.

Fast & Furious 7

The latest installment in a series that needs no introduction for racing fans, Fast and Furious 7 was thrust into the spotlight most recently in the wake of Paul Walker’s tragic driving accident. A direct sequel to Fast & Furious 6, Fast & Furious 7 features a host of big name Hollywood stars such as Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell, and Michelle Rodriguez. While the list of cars to be featured in the movie is not yet known, FF6 showed high performance vehicles such as the BMW M5, Dodge Charger, and even a 1970s Ford Escort- so there’s no doubt that the latest installment will not disappoint in its car offerings.

Rush

While Rush has come and gone from theaters, it has recently been released on home media so anybody who missed Ron Howard’s driving spectacle can still enjoy it, albeit on a smaller screen. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Rush focuses primarily on the intense rivalry between two Formula One drivers. While you may not see any familiar cars by well-known makers such as Ford or Lincoln, be prepared to be blown away by authentic high performance machines made by the likes of Ferrari and McLaren. Released to critical acclaim, Rush is a relatively low-profile film that is not to be missed.

Getting the most MPG out of your new or used car | New Orleans, LA

February 24, 2014 By Matthew Hritz

Buying gas for your car is likely one of the biggest expenses in your budget. With gas prices that seem to be constantly rising, and the fact that you simply can’t stop driving your car altogether, it can often seem like there’s no real way to save any money on gas. If you are in the market for a new car, you can look into buying a car with hybrid or Ford Ecoboost technology, but for the rest of us, there’s no miracle way to slash our monthly gas expenses. Fortunately, there are a few ways to cut corners and save a little bit of extra money when it comes to buying gas.

Lamarque Ford Best MPG New Orleans

Adjusting how you drive can be a big factor in getting the best MPG out of your car. When running errands, try to do so during parts of the day with the smallest amount of traffic. This means try to avoid doing them around 9am or 5pm, when most people are going to and from work. Similarly, try to drive at a steady, consistent pace when you drive as opposed to varying your speed or stopping and accelerating frequently. Maintaining a consistent speed has been proven to optimize gas efficiency in cars. And although you likely have less control over this, try to base when you leave for work and the route you take to accommodate steady driving as well. Cruise control can also help get the best MPG out of your car.

When shopping for gas, there are a few things you can keep in mind in terms of cost and type of gasoline. It usually isn’t worth it to drive across town for the cheapest gas. If you pass a station with unusually cheap gas then by all means, go ahead and stop. If you’re considering a gas station across town that is slightly cheaper, you may end up losing more money for the drive to get there.  Using stations that are close to your home, even if slightly more expensive, can usually save you money. Also, try to fill up during the coldest time of the day. Since gas is purchased by volume, you get more for your money when the gas is at its most dense- in other words, during the coldest part of the day. Additionally, make sure your gas cap is tight and secure. Fuel can vaporize and thus be wasted if the cap isn’t securely fastened.

Buying gas from a wholesaler such as Sam’s or Costco can save you small amounts, and although you shouldn’t make the special trip just for gas, you can try to fill up at these locations if you routinely shop there. You might also consider getting a gas credit card. As long as you make your monthly payments, having a gas credit card can potentially save you a little bit of money over the long run. Also make sure you keep your car properly maintained, in order to ensure peak performance and gas efficiency.

Follow these tips in order to save some money here and there, and who knows- maybe you can put it towards getting that brand new car you’ve been dreaming about.

Ford Ecoboost Performance | New Orleans, LA

February 13, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

You may, like millions of Americans right now, be concerned about the fuel efficiency of your car or truck. Like many Americans, you may also be worried about the environmental impact your new car or truck could potentially be causing. With so many buzz words floating around, it can be very hard to discern between what will actually be beneficial and what won’t.

Ford Ecoboost

It’s likely that you’ve at least heard about Ford Ecoboost, whether from a Ford commercial, from a salesman at a car dealership, or even from a friend. While it may sound ambiguous or abstract at first, Ecoboost is simply a family of direct injection, turbocharged petrol engines co-developed by Ford and FEV engineering to be used in Ford cars. These engines use a hybrid technology to emphasize fuel economy as well as increased power and performance. Ecoboost engines can achieve up to 20% better MPG and can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 15% as compared to traditional engines. Comparable to hybrid engines in terms of environmental friendliness, Ford cars equipped with Ecoboost engines can still protect the environment without sacrificing engine performance and torque. Ford Ecoboost engines are both versatile and affordable alternatives, and have been met with universal acclaim since their introduction in 2009.

The number of Ford cars and trucks which utilize the Ecoboost performance system is steadily growing, with the 2014 Ford Fiesta St, 2013 Ford F-150, 2015 Ford Mustang, and 2015 Lincoln MKC being among the newer cars with this option available. But with continued rise in popularity of affordable, economically friendly engines, expect to see similar technology implemented in even more Ford cars and trucks in the future.
