Tailgating Tips from Lamarque Ford

September 20, 2019 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

It’s that time of year again, football season! And with football season comes another staple, tailgating. Tailgating is a fun way for people to come together and support their favorite teams. No invitation needed! No matter the weather or the opponent, Louisianians never need an excuse to come together, have a ball, and celebrate our favorite football teams.

Menu Matters

It’s no secret that Louisianians know how to cook. Anything we can cook in the kitchen; we can definitely whip up in the parking lot before the big game. Stick with local favorites that you can create large pans of, such as jambalaya or boudin. Simple dishes, like hot dogs and hamburgers, work well too and are often a crowd favorite.

Just like your favorite team, make sure to have a game plan when it comes to your tailgating menu. Do all your prep work at home!

Show Your Colors

A festive atmosphere always puts people in a gameday mood. Only setting up one plain table and throwing some chips and dip out is not going to cut it. From a table cloth decorated with your team colors and logo to setting up a pop-up man cave full of team memorabilia, your tailgating atmosphere is essential for keeping everyone pumped for the game.

To go the extra mile, tailgate with Louisiana’s favorite tailgating accessory, a Ford F-150. It’s large bed and cab are perfect for storage, setting up food, or lounging before the game. With the right set up, the opportunities are endless!

Clean Up After Yourself

Bring plenty of trash bags, paper towels, and even disinfectant wipes. Industrial grade trash bags are definitely recommended. People will be running through food, cups, utensils, napkins, you name it. You don’t want your trash bag exploding mid-tailgate. Make sure your group follows your example and leaves the tailgating space cleaner than when you arrived.

From everyone at Lamarque Ford, we hope everyone has a safe and happy tailgating season!

August 30, 2019 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Have you heard the news? After an eight-year absence, the Ford Ranger mid-size truck is making a comeback, in the most Lamarqueable way! With consumers purchasing more trucks and SUVs, rather than sedans or sports cars, it makes sense that Ford would bring back this once popular mid-size truck. Ford wants to reclaim its share in the increasingly popular mid-size truck market. And with the Ford brand’s (and Ronnie’s) enormous popularity, they will have no problem at all.

What are a few of the things the new Ford Ranger offer, you ask?

  • Updated, sleek styling inside and out
  • XL, XLT, and Lariat model styles with Super Cab or SuperCrew options
  • 3-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 270-horsepower
  • Commanding ten-speed automatic transmission
  • Standard active safety systems, such as emergency braking, lane departure warning and assist, and blind-spot with trailer coverage
  • Standard rear-wheel drive or optional 4×4 packages
  • Powerful towing and hauling
  • A number of optional packages, such as the Chrome Appearance Package or the Sport Appearance package

Summer Road Trip Tips From Lamarque Ford

May 17, 2019 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Summer is right around the corner. Thinking about taking a vacation? How about taking a road trip somewhere? Every year, more and more Americans are hitting the open road. In fact, about half of traveling families are expecting to pack up their cars for a road trip in 2019. If you do plan on hitting the road this summer, Lamarque Ford has some tips for you and your family to stay safe and enjoy the ride.

Get your car up to speed

Once you’ve chosen your destination, make sure you give your car a good clean, inside and out. Next, about a week before you leave, bring your car to a mechanic (like Quick Lane at Lamarque Ford) and ask them to check things like fluids, tires (including your spare), and your battery. You don’t want to breakdown in the middle of farm country Illinois, then wait hours for a tow truck.

Roadside assistance is your friend

Speaking of waiting for a tow truck, make sure your roadside assistance is good to go for your road trip. Don’t have roadside assistance? It might be in your best interest to sign up for a service, either through a third party or your insurance.

Make sure the cooler is stocked

No one likes a “hangry” driver. Keep a cooler filled with drinks and sandwiches and have snacks, like trail mix and chips, handy. You’ll make good time if you keep your stops limited to gas fill-ups and bathroom breaks only.

Find something to pass the time

Tuning through regional radio can get boring. Try downloading some music, a podcast or an audiobook to pass the time. For your passengers, download a movie or a TV series they can watch. Or try a classic car game, like I Spy!

Know your route

Make sure you map out the route you will be taking beforehand and recruit your passenger to help you navigate. The most efficient way to map your route is to use a phone or some other GPS device. However, it is also a good idea to bring along a paper map, just in case service is spotty or something happens to the device.

Plan loosely

Have an estimated time of arrival, but the keyword is ESTIMATED. When driving you should account for things like road closures and rush hour traffic. Don’t plan your trip down to the last second. Life happens.

Explore the scenic route

If do you have a little extra time, veer off the interstate for a bit and take a back road.  One of the best things about a road trip is seeing all the beautiful things America has to offer. Take advantage of it.

Just enjoy the ride

For some, road trips are not just about the destination, they are also about the quality time you spend with your family. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride with your family.

From everyone at Lamarque Ford, have safe and happy summer travels!

Mardi Gras Tips from Ronnie Lamarque

February 28, 2019 By Matthew Hritz

Here at Lamarque Ford, we love our city and of course, we LOVE Mardi Gras. Let’s take a step away from talking about automobiles for a minute and talk about the most wonderful time of the year! Here are five tips for celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans and making the most of it.

Arrive Early

If you have shown up to a Mardi Gras parade late, you know that it’s stressful. The crowds can be so out of control, you may end up not even having a good view of the parade. Arriving early to the parade will ensure that you get a great spot and avoid the huge crowds.

Stake a Spot That’s Appropriate

Keep in mind that if you are arriving with children, you might want to look for specific kid-friendly spots. You may also want to make sure that you are close to a restroom or porta potty. Another bit of advice is to bring hand sanitizer and any other additional toiletries in case there are none available in the restrooms.

Make Sure You Get the Best Show

Highly populated areas will be where the bands will give their best performances and where the most beads, cups, doubloons, stuffed animals, etc. are thrown!

Rent a Bike

Getting around during Mardi Gras in a car is tough. You may not want to deal with the limited parking, crazy traffic, or possibility of running into a parade route. Blue Bike offers bikes for short term rentals and long term rentals. Aside from blue bike, there are plenty of other bike rental companies around the city.

Be Safe and Behave!

Did you know that if you are arrested during Mardi Gras, you won’t get released until Ash Wednesday? Ronnie Lamarque wants you to BEHAVE this Mardi Gras season and represent our great city the right way.

We hope that everyone has a wonderful Mardi Gras and we look forward to having a great time. Happy Mardi Gras from Lamarque Ford!

The New F-150: It’s Electric!

January 31, 2019 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

If you love electric cars and the Ford F-150, get ready! Ford has confirmed that it will build a fully-electric F-series pickup, marking the first time the automaker has officially revealed such a vehicle is in the works.

It has been reported that Ford Executive Vice President Jim Farley told attendees of the Deutsche Bank Global Automotive Conference in Detroit that “we’re going to be electrifying the F-Series – battery electric and hybrid.”

Ford Spokesman Mike Levine stated that they are working on “a new way to better serve our truck customers.” This all comes about when Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been teasing the industry with a pending unveiling of pickups. For those of you that are still skeptical about electric cars, here are three reasons why electric cars might be the best option for everyone.

They Save You Money

No matter where you plug in across the country, electric vehicles are cheaper to fuel than gas powered automobiles. Electric vehicles can also save you on maintenance costs because they don’t need oil changes, spark plugs, timing belts, and no routine maintenance.

They offer a Better Driving Experience

Electric vehicles have a low center of gravity and this improves your driving experience. In addition, an electric engine generates instant torque that improve acceleration and deceleration.

They cut your emissions

The average EV in the U.S today produces the emissions equivalent of a gasoline car that gets 73 miles per gallon. The emissions performance of EVs is set to only improve as wind and solar power displace coal-fired electricity generation. This means they are better for you and better for the environment.

Here at Lamarque Ford, we are so excited about all of the changes that are coming to Ford. We understand all of the benefits of electric cars and we are ready to get these new electric F-150’s on our lot!

Looking for a Mardi Gras Car?

January 15, 2019 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

For many people around Louisiana, Christmas decorations have come down and king cakes have invaded our homes. Here at Lamarque Ford, we love to celebrate and especially around this time of year when our city comes alive! We have some special mardi gras vehicles for sale at Lamarque Ford! Before we give you the details, here is some history about the colors of Mardi Gras.

Rex selected the official Mardi Gras colors in 1872 and gave them meaning.

Purple- representing justice.

Green- representing faith.

Gold- representing power.

These Mardi Gras colors influenced the choice of school colors for arch rivals Louisiana State University and Tulane University. When LSU was deciding their colors, the shops in New Orleans had already stocked up on purple, green, and gold material for Mardi Gras Season. Because of this, LSU decided upon purple and gold and bought most of it. Tulane then bought the only remaining color: green.

In modern day, we enjoy delicious king cake that is sprinkled with these three colors, dress up in whacky costumes with these colors, and decorate our front porches with glittery variations of these colors. Here at Lamarque Ford, if you are really serious about showcasing your Mardi Gras pride, here are some vehicles for you!

  1. Purple Used vehicle
  2. Green
  3. Gold

As Carnival season has officially started, we hope that everyone has a fantastic Mardi Gras this year!

A Lamarque Ford Christmas

December 18, 2018 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Here at Lamarque Ford, we recognize Christmas as the most important time of the year. It is the day that our savior was born and it’s time to rejoice!  Christmas is a time for cherishing our friends and family, spreading cheer, and being thankful for what we have. It is also a time for some much anticipated Christmas traditions! Here in New Orleans we typically don’t expect to have that picturesque white Christmas. However, we have our own colorful holiday traditions that make living in New Orleans during the holidays an experience like none other – even without snow! We get to experience bonfires on the levee, The 12 Yats of Christmas, caroling in Jackson Square and so much more! If there’s one thing New Orleanians have come to expect during the most wonderful time of the year it’s the generosity of Lamarque Ford and the Lamarque family. Lamarque Ford’s 25 Days of Christmas and the Lamarque family’s visit to Children’s Hospital are as synonymous with a NOLA Christmas as a slice of a Cajun Kringle from Haydel’s. You may even hear that we are behind the flood of beautiful Christmas songs on Magic 105.5!

25 Days of Christmas

Every year at Christmas time, Lamarque Ford runs the 25 Days of Christmas giveaway. This giveaway offers a $50 gas card to two lucky winners every day for 25 days straight (excluding Sundays). $50 towards gas can immensely help a family who is stretching themselves thin to make this Christmas a special one. That’s the purpose of this promotion – to give back to the people who deserve it! It’s so easy to enter our 25 Days of Christmas giveaway. Head over to our Facebook, click on the “Giveaway” tab, then enter your name, phone number and keyword. For more information on the rules and regulations click here. In addition, the Lamarque family will match every dollar that is given away in the promotion in toy donations! That amounts to over 250 toys gifted to the children at Children’s Hospital.

Visit to Children’s Hospital

New Orleans Children’s Hospital is a 247-bed, not-for-profit pediatric center located in New Orleans’ Uptown neighborhood.  The children there receive loving care from the more than 400 physicians employed there. Every year, Mr. and Mrs. Lamarque bring the holiday spirit with them when they visit Children’s Hospital. The Lamarque family’s gift giving allows the patients to have a sense of normalcy during a trying time.

We hope that you have the merriest Christmas of all this year and remember the reason for the season.

Matthew 1:21

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

How to Properly Transport a Christmas Tree With Your Car

December 4, 2018 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

If you didn’t decorate right after Thanksgiving, then you are a late decorator! There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but everyone knows that a Christmas tree is the most important part of Christmas decorations. A fresh and live Christmas Fir tree is more popular than ever. Here at Lamarque Ford, we love giving gifts throughout the year. This year, we opened our brand new pre-owned showroom. What a year 2018 has been! Now, we want to give you tips on how to get your fresh-cut tree from the tree farm to your home.

Before you leave your home, it’s a good idea to measure how tall of a tree you are looking for. Next, you should measure your vehicle and decide if you will transport your tree on the roof or inside the cabin. Be sure to also grab some strong rope and a blanket just in case the tree farm or nursery so it doesn’t cut into the weather stripping on your vehicle’s doors. Once you find the perfect tree, you should give the tree a good shake so you can get rid of any loose needles. Wrap your tree in burlap or netting to keep it compact and then put a blanket or burlap between the tree and the vehicle’s roof.

Place the tree on the roof of your vehicle with the trunk pointed towards the front. When you secure the trunk of the tree by wrapping rope around it, then tie each end on opposite sides of the roof. Continue wrapping the rope from one side of the vehicle to the other side.

Sometimes, it’s easy to load up a tree with roof racks. For those without a roof rack, it’s necessary to run the rope through the interior of the vehicle with the doors open. Do NOT run the rope through the windows of the vehicle or you won’t be able to exit. Before hitting the highway, tug your rope to make sure your tree is secure.

Here at Lamarque Ford, Christmas is our favorite time of year because it is when Christ was born! Check out our beautiful Christmas tree at our new pre-owned building.

A Ford Halloween

October 18, 2018 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Who is ready for a Ford Halloween? For over 30 years, Michigan Central Station sat vacant, eerily standing guard overlooking Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood. Ford officially bought the train station this past summer, for the recently disclosed price of $90 million, Detroiters were excited at the possibility that the building’s beautiful Beaux-Arts architecture would finally see new life.

Upon opening its doors in 1913, the classic Beaux-Arts-style building became an immediate fixture of downtown Detroit. It was an opulent, 18-story building and the tallest train station in the world at the time.

Since 1988, the Detroit station has been abandoned. It fell into a dilapidated state and has starred as a gritty and derelict backdrop to films such as Eminem’s 8 Mile, Transformers and Batman v. Superman.

Before Ford plans to redevelop the area for its new headquarters, it’s going to haunt Detroiters to a haunted house. For only one day this Halloween season, Ford will turn the depot’s first floor into a haunted house. The Ford Motor Company Fund is to provide community services and they will fund the entire haunted experience.

After the Haunted House, Ford plans to redevelop the space as an innovation hub and to revitalize the Grand Hall with local retail and restaurants. Before the ambitious project gets underway, it’s opening its doors for one night only this Halloween as a Haunted House.

Priority access will be given to local residents and will be free to the public. Tickets will go fast! In this Halloween season, we also have a special promotion running at Lamarque Ford featuring scary low prices. Click here to see what savings are in store for you. No matter what you are looking for, whether it be a new or used car, auto financing options, car service appointments, test drive, or help to figure out what auto part you might need.

It’s no trick. Come treat yourself at Lamarque Ford.
