Ford’s Innovative Way for Educating About DUIs

November 20, 2015 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

About 20% of motor-vehicle-related deaths involve at least one of the drivers involved being under the influence of drugs other than alcohol. For Ford, that number is far too high.

In an innovative way for educating the youth about the dangers of drug use and driving, Ford hired scientists from the Meyer-Hentschel Institute in Germany to develop a suit that would allow one to experience the effects of drugs such as marijuana, heroin, ecstasy, and cocaine while driving. The suit features a combination of headphones that play confusing and distracting background noise, vision-impairment glasses, neck and elbow bandages to restrict normal movement, and a wrist weight to slow reaction time. These devices attempt to simulate the delayed and distracted motions that the body goes through when under the influence of these substances.

The new Drugged Driving Suit will be incorporated into Ford Driving Skills for Life, the award-winning young driver program that has provided training to more than 500,000 people around the world through hands-on and online tuition since its inception 11 years ago.

HOT WHEELS: Tire Fire Sale Happening NOW!

November 20, 2015 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

When considering car safety, most motorists ignore their tires. Tires are more than just rubber, as they directly interact with the surface and transmit power from your car into the ground. Tires also play a vital role in breaking, stability and fuel economy. It should come as no surprise then, that tire technology as been consistently improving over the years. Here are some tips that will help you and your car drive better.

Monitor Your Tire Pressure

Most new vehicles are equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system, which is a sensor that alerts the driver when tire pressure is low. However, some systems are more sensitive than others, so it is recommended to regularly check the pressure with a pressure gauge. Always consult your owner’s manual to ensure your tires have the optimal amount of air. Remember that improper tire pressure can compromise stability and breaking, so take this seriously!

Rotate Your Tires

Rotating the tires to opposite corners of your car will extend their life. Although this step is not crucial for safety, it can save you a few bucks in the long run. Most cars have traction on only one or two wheels, so there’s always more wear on a certain pair of tires (front ones or rear ones). Hence, rotating them evens out the damage to the tread evenly.

Keep Them Balanced

Tires only need to be balanced when they’re first put on your wheels. Each tire is balanced to its own wheel, so rotating the tires does not necessarily mean you have to get them balanced. However, if you’ve damaged the sidewall or hit a big pot hole, you could be better off with a balancing. Any time a tire and rim are separated, they need to be balanced.

Inspect Tires For Wear

This might not be part of your daily routine, but it could even save your life. Your tire can be visually damaged and still not be detected by the pressure monitoring system. Don’t wait until is too late and your tire blows up at highway speeds! Some people recommend to inspect your tires daily before leaving for work, and is as simple as walking around your car looking for signs of damage like worn sidewalls or foreign objects in the tires.

Watch Your Weight

All tires are built to withstand a certain weight. Do not overload them as it could cause them to blow up or get damaged. Consult your owner’s manual or your tire warranty to learn more about your tires’ weight rating. Overloading your tires usually means you’re overloading your vehicle’s suspension, which is never a good idea. If it feels too heavy, it probably is.

Replace Accordingly

As you perform your scheduled car maintenance, ask your mechanic to look at your tires and see if they need to be replaced. The rule of thumb is the penny test, and consists on sticking a penny into your tire’s tread with Lincoln’s head upside down. If the tread covers the top of his head, you should be good to go. If there’s any concern over wet roads or hot weather, don’t hesitate to take your car to your local mechanic.

Why To Buy a Ford In 2016

November 15, 2015 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

2016 is going to be a great year for Ford, as the company is introducing a myriad of updated models and new technologies. Consumers will have the best selection of SUVs, crossovers, pick-up trucks, sedans and sports cars, including some of the most anticipated cars of the new year. Ford’s commitment to quality, performance, fuel efficiency and safety make it one of the best options for car buyers in 2016. Let’s look at the top reasons to buy a 2016 Ford.

Ford Offers EcoBoost Engines

Ford now offers EcoBoost engines in every model available (except Expedition), which means consumers have access to the latest performance and fuel efficient technology. Who would have though a 6-cylinder F-150 could outperform V8 competitors? America’s best selling truck now offers two EcoBoost engines, the biggest one producing 365 horsepower. Even Ford’s popular muscle car, the Mustang, is getting an EcoBoost treatment this year with a powerful 310 horsepower four-cylinder, that’s right, a four-cylinder Mustang. The technology behind EcoBoost is, in simple terms, a combination of small efficient engines and turbo-chargers with direct fuel injection.

Ford Has The Best Looks

When Ford started its One Global strategy, it was obvious some change was in place: design. Ford’s new design language features an Aston Martin-esque front grille, along with lean lines and a bolder look. Ford family of sedans is now well, unmistakably Ford, as the Fiesta, Focus, and Fusion feature similar elements that give the brand a much needed make-over. The new design extends to the SUVs, crossovers, and large sedans and it makes use of a piano-black mesh front grille for upscale models, such as the Taurus SHO or Explorer Platinum.

Ford Has Smart Production

Ford’s engineers have been hard at work to find new materials and innovative production techniques. Hence, the company is now using high-strength aluminum for its engines and the body of the F-150, which many said it couldn’t be done. The company also has a new prototyping system that allows engineers to work faster and smarter, “printing” parts directly on sheets of metal.

Latest Technology

Ford now offers several safety technologies that can help reduce the risk of accidents, whether the driver is distracted or after a crash. The newest safety systems include Advance TranStability control, SafetyCanopy system (crates a canopy with airbags to reduce roll-over related injuries), SOS post crash alert system, inflatable rear safety belts, blind spot system, driver park assist, and others.

Additionally, Ford offers great entertainment and console options, like MyFord Touch, SYNC, which is getting an update, intelligent-access with push-to-start button, rear view camera, birds-eye view and more.

Can Safety Become Dangerous?

November 10, 2015 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

With technological advances in automotive features ranging from progressive to excessive, vehicular transport now seems to have a “snooze & cruise” attitude attached to it.

Automakers pack their cars with more and more semi autonomous safety technology like adaptive cruise control and automatic braking, so driving a car becomes easier and easier. We are, essentially, given less to pay attention to while we’re taught that our cars are watching out for us.

The level of technology we’re seeing is impressive. Adaptive cruise control ensures your car slows with traffic. Lane departure warning technology tells you when you’ve strayed over the line. Some cars will tell you when you’re nodding off, while others will actually stop your car if a pedestrian steps out into traffic.

These systems, in practice if not by design, allow drivers to pay less attention to the road ahead. The impact on performance and safety depends upon how big a workload drivers have. In stressful situations where drivers are easily overwhelmed, such as stop-and-go traffic or searching for an address in an unfamiliar neighborhood, electronic nannies can be a big help to a driver whose cognitive load is maxed out.

But put that same driver on an arrow-straight road in Kansas in the dead of the night and it could be a problem. The driver isn’t paying attention and may not see trouble coming until it’s too late.

Ford: Evolution of the Logo

October 30, 2015 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Ford, one of America’s culturally and historically iconic companies, underwent a series of branding changes as the decades passed by. Ford’s logo is now among the most recognizable in the world, but it took some steps to get there.

ford11903- this was the first logo to be placed onto a car. For the first few years, its nouveau border was a huge hit, as it was very fashionable at the time.

ford21906- remembered as the “script with wings”, this logo was used on all Ford cars up to about 1910 when the lettering was revised in the form that is still used today. The script lettering became registered in the US Patent Office in 1909.

ford31912- Ford used the outline of an eagle to symbolize speed, grace, and lightness. This logo was printed both in dark blue and orange, and carried the slogan “The Universal Car”. Henry Ford ordered that the logo be changed out of his personal dislike for the design.

ford

1927- With the same deep royal blue background as today’s, this logo lasted until the end of the ’50s.

ford5Present- the blue and silver Ford oval has been used as an identification badge on all Ford vehicles for the sake of being more recognizable and consistent. It is now used on all recently made Ford vehicles all over the world.

Donald Trump Hair Blowing in Wind

Ahhh Politics. With the presidential race in full swing, politics and fingering pointing are all the norm right now and no one can deny the face, or mouth shall I say, of this election to date is Donald Trump. Whether for or against, everyone has a pretty set opinion about the billionaire real estate mogul. Recently, Mr. Trump has made erroneous statements about how his stance on Mexico and his plan to tax outsourced vehicles is the reason Ford is keeping its production lines in the United States and out of Mexico.

As you can imagine, along came Ford’s CEO, Mark Fields, with the counter punches stating “the decision was made back in 2011 to bring production to Ohio and not Mexico for the simple reason we know what we’re doing in Ohio.” Fields also pointed out that by keeping production locally that Ford has “created more jobs, balanced budgets, and done workforce training.”

With a little over a year till the actual election, I think it’s safe to say that it is gunna be a long election race. Also, with Ford’s recent growth and surge in the stock market, there’s never been a better time to be a proud owner of a Ford!

Ford Fusion Speeds Past the Competition

October 28, 2015 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

The Ford Fusion, which has been Ford’s prized racing car for nearly a decade, racked up another victory at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series last weekend with NASCAR living legend Joey Logano.

cq5dam.web.1024.768While Logano had a big day, so did Ford, whose cars lead the racers to three top-10 finishers of the Sprint Cup Series (Joey Logano 1st, Ryan Blaney 7th, and Brad Keselowski 9th).

Logano has been criticized in the past for his alleged overly-aggressive style and baiting his opponents using his maneuverability, but you gotta do what you gotta do to win, especially when you’re on-the-go.
