2015 Mustang Features Confirmed | Lamarque Ford | New Orleans

July 18, 2014 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

We’ve been talking about the new 2015 Ford Mustang for a while, and although we knew what it looked like and all about the awesome features, the official numbers were just released last week. That’s right, The Ford Motor Company announced official engine configurations, EPA fuel efficiency ratings, engine enhancements, transmission upgrades and horsepower. To truly understand the new improvements we’ll look at the different engine configurations the 2015 Mustang has to offer.

2015 Mustang Joins EcoBoost Family

The 2015  Ford Mustang is introducing the new 2.3 EcoBoost engine, a four cylinder beast that produces 310 horsepower and  320 lb. of torque. Ford engineers went incredible lengths to pack this much power in such a small package, as this new EcoBoost has the highest power density to date in any Ford. So what can we expect from a muscle car with a four cylinder engine? Let’s just say it blows its V6 sibling out of the water, with better numbers all around including fuel efficiency. Some may even think Ford is trying to kill the V6 version altogether, since an upgrade to the EcoBoost is a mere $1,570, or a difference of $32 per month over four years. So what are critics saying?

Ever since Ford announced there would be a four-cylinder Mustang, car writers around the world remained doubtful that such a vehicle could do any good to the nameplate. Let’s face it, muscle cars have always been about big engines, fast laps, and pleasantly loud exhausts. After proving it could build a smaller yet more capable engine, Ford’s final concern was to bring an exciting sound to the engine, so it fine tuned it to match that of bigger cars. So fear not, Mustang fans, your EcoBoost pony car will still have a gutsy exhaust sound.

Now that we’ve covered your concerns over flashy engine features like, you know, the way it sounds and how much power it produces, let’s get a bit more technical. What makes the 2015 EcoBoost Mustang engine so great? It’s all about the new materials and of course, the new turbo-charger. Here are the new engine enhancements:

  • Steel piston ring carriers
  • Premium bearings
  • Updated valves
  • Forged-steel connecting rods
  • High-pressure die-cast aluminum cylinder blocks
  • Deep-sump, die-cast aluminum oil pan
  • Forged-steel crankshaft
  • Piston-cooling jets

Mustang GT: New V8 Performance

Over the years, the Mustang team has experimented with exclusive street-racing models, like the legendary Shelby 500 and the Boss 302. Although these vehicles are equipped with performance upgrades that would be too costly for regular production cars, Ford has learned plenty from these efforts. The all-new 2015 Mustang GT sports a 5.0 liter V8 engine, and borrows the best technology from the 2012 Mustang Boss 302. To achieve its impressive 435 horsepower and 400 lb. of torque, the Mustang GT’s engine was redesigned to allow more air into the cylinders and intake. The revised engine takes advantage of the following features:

  • New valve system that allows them to close completely at high rpm
  • A redesigned combustion chamber that fits larger valves for less restriction in air flow
  • Lighter and more durable connecting rods
  • All-new deeper piston tops
  • Bigger intake and exhaust valves
  • Revised intake and exhaust camshafts

The 2015 Mustang GT gets all these upgrades plus a redesigned state of the art transmission. Whether you choose manual or automatic, you will experience better and smoother shifting than in any previous model. The manual gear-box gets improved precision thanks to its new linkage system and the shift lever’s new location closer to the driver. The new Mustang’s automatic transmission, available in both EcoBoost and GT, gains new steering wheel-mounted shift paddles to enhance the driving experience.

Ford is also producing a relatively updated version of the V6 engine, which generates 300 horsepower and is available on the 2015 Mustang base model. Although it is still a great car, Ford is betting the new Mustang strategy on the EcoBoost and GT engines. Contact your local Ford dealership to learn more about preorders and availability.

The all-new 2015 Mustang is scheduled to make its debut later this fall and we couldn’t be more excited. Rumors keep rolling in that Ford is ceasing manufacturing of the current model as it readies production lines for the 2015 Ford Mustang, so we decided to give you an in-depth look at the latest version of the legendary car. We’ve already covered a few key aspects of the vehicle, like the 2015 Mustang aerodynamics and the celebration surrounding its 50th anniversary, but today we’ll wrap-up the official information from the company. Find out what makes the new Mustang so special and why we’re so thrilled about this legendary muscle car.

Mustang Design Features

The 2015 Mustang shares little with its predecessors, as the new car has been completely redesigned. The most noticeable change comes to the front of the car, as the hood has been lowered significantly and the headlights came forward. This affects the whole silhouette of the car and it projects a more aggressive look, giving the Mustang a longer hood and more recessed cabin. From front to back, the bold lines chiseled on the side panels take you to the Mustang’s slimmed down ‘hips’, which have as much taste as they have an aerodynamic purpose. The rear wheels, however, are offset twenty millimeters outwards on each side, giving the 2015 Mustang a wider back fender which complements the muscle car look.

Despite the full redesign, the 2015 model is unmistakably a Mustang. The new silhouette and roof line helped modernize the car, while giving it the fastback profile reminiscent of the 1964 and 1965 models. The design team also set to give Mustang a more three-dimensional look, which is visible on the surfacing of the taillights and the side panels.

Performance

Although the company has been mum about horsepower and fuel rating, details about engine configurations and trims are readily available. The base model sports a 3.7 liter V6, similar to the current 2014 offering that achieves 305 horsepower with a manual transmission. New to the line-up is a 4 cylinder Ecoboost Mustang, with a 2.3 liter engine and the signature turbocharger seen across these fuel efficient engines. Ford assures that the high-capacity direct injection system and the twin-scroll low-inertia turbocharger will give Mustang Ecoboost an improved time-to-torque and exhilarating driving dynamics. As always, a 5.0 liter V8 joins the party with a promised increase in performance.

Technology Improvements

Ford has designed the 2015 Mustang completely around the driver’s needs, hence all the new features serve the daunting task of enhancing driving experience. All 2015 Mustangs come standard with intelligent access / push-to-start button technology, which means that as long as the key is on you, you can unlock and start the car without reaching into your pocket. Blind Spot Information System is also available, a system that warns you when vehicles are approaching you from blind spots.

The Convertible

The Ford Motor company has in essence designed two different 2015 Mustangs, the fastback and the convertible. Ford claims the 2015 drop top was conceived from the ground up to be a convertible, and its lines and styling show just that. Whether the top is up or down, the 2015 Mustang has a great character and an undeniable Mustang look.
