A Ford Halloween

October 18, 2018 By Matthew Hritz Leave a Comment

Who is ready for a Ford Halloween? For over 30 years, Michigan Central Station sat vacant, eerily standing guard overlooking Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood. Ford officially bought the train station this past summer, for the recently disclosed price of $90 million, Detroiters were excited at the possibility that the building’s beautiful Beaux-Arts architecture would finally see new life.

Upon opening its doors in 1913, the classic Beaux-Arts-style building became an immediate fixture of downtown Detroit. It was an opulent, 18-story building and the tallest train station in the world at the time.

Since 1988, the Detroit station has been abandoned. It fell into a dilapidated state and has starred as a gritty and derelict backdrop to films such as Eminem’s 8 Mile, Transformers and Batman v. Superman.

Before Ford plans to redevelop the area for its new headquarters, it’s going to haunt Detroiters to a haunted house. For only one day this Halloween season, Ford will turn the depot’s first floor into a haunted house. The Ford Motor Company Fund is to provide community services and they will fund the entire haunted experience.

After the Haunted House, Ford plans to redevelop the space as an innovation hub and to revitalize the Grand Hall with local retail and restaurants. Before the ambitious project gets underway, it’s opening its doors for one night only this Halloween as a Haunted House.

Priority access will be given to local residents and will be free to the public. Tickets will go fast!
