In the past few years, The Ford Motor Company has focused on its sustainability strategy and its business plan to make the best vehicles in the planet while minimizing its effects on it. From reducing emissions by making Ford engines more efficient, to rethinking the way resources are used at factories, Ford’s green strategy is in full swing. There are five key components to Ford’s new sustainability strategy: Greening of Products, Greening of Operations, Confronting Climate Change, Reducing Water Use, and Protecting Human Rights.
Ford’s Green Products
Ford is “Greening their Products” by using technologies like turbo-chargers, direct injection of gasoline or diesel fuel, six-speed transmissions, and hybrid and plug-in hybrid power trains that deliver “power of choice” to drivers. Ford is using its low-consumption, high-power EcoBoost engines to ensure their vehicles conform these new guidelines. Even Ford’s workhorse, the celebrated F-150, has gained a new EcoBoost V6 engine that rival its V8 competition in terms of power, while reducing fuel consumption. Ford is also planning weight reduction in vehicles ranging from 250 to 750 pounds, which help the vehicle’s overall efficiency.
Ford’s Green Operations
Ford’s Green Operations include their Confronting Climate Change and Reducing Water Use strategies. The main focus here is to reduce overall waste and carbon emissions at production facilities, which Ford operates globally. For instance, Ford develops water saving strategies locally to address scarcity, ensuring a stable water supply at factories without creating a big impact in local communities. Ford is also committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 30 percent from 2010 to 2025 at factories.
Protecting Human Rights
As the first car manufacturer to recognize the importance of its most valuable resource, its workers, Ford has continuously addressed human rights, basic working conditions and corporate responsibility. Ford’s policy on human rights is a recognition to the contribution of its employees and has been devised after international treaties and frameworks, like the International Bill of Human Rights. The code addresses issues like child labor, fair compensation, forced labor, freedom of association, discrimination, health and safety, working hours, amongst many others.
Ford not only makes great vehicles, but is also aware of the global issues that come as a result of producing its products in mass. Contact Lamarque Ford today to be part of Ford’s sustainability strategy and drive a fuel efficient, socially responsibly manufactured vehicle.
