The 2016 Ford Medium Duty F-650 and F-750 get a complete overhaul with a new design that incorporates a proactive engineering approach in favor of optimal powertrain by Ford to maximize towing capacity and aerodynamics.
Ford-Built Engine & Transmission
Ford will be taking the offensive for its Class 1 through Class 7 vehicles by constructing the medium duty F-650’s and F-750’s in-house. The bold venture will feature the diesel or gasoline powered Class 6-7 trucks to be built with the proven TorqShift HD 6-speed automatic to improve efficiency and maximize performance. Although this strategy will say goodbye to the Cummins engine commonly seen on Ford’s F-650’s and F-750’s, Ford will be introducing a second-generation 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel engine that offers the best-in-class standard diesel 270 HP with 675 lb.-ft. of torque. Ford customers will also have the option to choose the Class-Exclusive 6.8L V10 Gas engine. Benefits of the V10 gas engine include lower acquisition cost versus diesel, significantly lower fuel cost, and a versatile engine prep package that offers emission conversions to compressed natural gas or liquid propane gas for additional capabilities.
Enabling the new Ford-built engines with a Ford-built 6-speed automatic transmission also makes Ford the only medium-duty truck manufacturer offering an engine and transmission combo. The new Ford transmission is built to last with low-end performance and optimized fuel efficiency for the ultimate towing capacity without the gas guzzler. If that wasn’t enough, the 2016 Ford F-650 and F-750 will also feature regeneration cycles to release trapped soot from the diesel engine to maximize performance and fuel economy as well as an intelligent oil change monitoring system that measures the need for oil changes based on your driving patterns and load demands, rather than fixed distances.
Ford F-650 and F-750 Redesigned
With a complete re-haul to the manufacturing side of the 2016 Ford F-650 and F-750, a redesign of the truck’s exterior is also in order. Thankfully, Ford does not fail to impress. The 2016 Ford F-650 and F-750 will feature the “Built Ford Tough” look that includes a new mesh grille front designed to improve airflow for the engine, smoother headlamps and redesigned fenders for improved aerodynamics, PowerScope mirrors, and trailer tow mirrors. The rear of the truck was also redesigned to easily accommodate various bodies including dump truck, tow truck, and even emergency vehicles.
To provide a better driving experience, the 2016 Ford F-650 and F-750 will feature state of the art suspension systems featuring longer springs to provide a more stable, comfortable ride as well as a new steering wheel that enhances vehicle maneuverability.
